Serum IgG, IgM, and IgA levels in ankylosing spondylitis.

چکیده
Using immunoelectrophoresis, Mackiewicz and Fenrych (1961) found broader and more intense IgM precipitation lines in sera from patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Kriegel, Burger, Kapp, and Alexopulos (1969) determined Ig levels in AS by single-radial immunodiffusion (Mancini, Vaerman, Carbonara, and Heremans, 1964) and reported a rise of the IgA level. Using the same technique, Langness, Banavsky, Alexopulos, Kriegel, and Burger (1971) found increased IgG and IgA serum levels in patients with AS. These authors did not consider the frequency distribution of the results nor the age distribution of the groups investigated. We have determined the IgG, IgM, and IgA concentration in AS with the linear plate immunodiffusion technique (Wieme and Veys, 1970; Veys, 1971), and have compared the results with the Ig levels found in a normal population (Veys, Wieme, and Vuylsteek, in press) and in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (Veys, 1971). The patients with AS were then subdivided into groups to look for correlations between Ig levels and duration and activity of the disease.

IgA serum levels and disease activity in ankylosing spondylitis.
We investigated the possible association between serum IgA, IgM, and IgG and disease activity in a longitudinal study of 48 weeks' duration in 38 male patients with active ankylosing spondylitis receiving regular treatment with either phenylbutazone or diflunisal. Throughout the study serum IgA levels correlated most frequently with chest expansion and lumbar flexion index, and patients with ex...
متن کاملSecretory IgA: immune defence pattern in ankylosing spondylitis and klebsiella.
Saliva secretory IgA (sIgA), secretory component (SC); serum immunoglobulins (IgG, IgA, IgM), complement (C3, C4), C-reactive protein (CRP), and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) were performed in 32 patients with ankylosing spondylitis and 29 normal controls. They were investigated for carriage in the faeces of Klebsiella spp. on 3 occasions over the previous months. Throat swabs and urine ...
متن کاملIncidence and correlation between serum IgG and IgM antibodies to native type II collagen in patients with chronic inflammatory arthritis.
Raised serum IgG and IgM antibody levels to native type II collagen were found in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and in patients with juvenile chronic arthritis. There was a good correlation between the serum IgG and the IgM antibody levels in rheumatoid arthritis and a weaker correlation in juvenile chronic arthritis. Raised serum IgM antibody levels to native type II collagen were found i...
متن کاملImmunoglobulin A and C reactive protein levels in ankylosing spondylitis.
SIR, We read with interest the recent paper by Sanders et al on the correlation of immunoglobulin and C reactive protein (CRP) levels in 22 patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and 20 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).' The authors found that IgA serum levels, though raised in AS, do not correlate with CRP levels as they do in RA, suggesting that the mechanism of increase of IgA in t...
متن کاملThe Effect of an Intense Anaerobic Exercise Session on Serum Levels of IgG, IgM and IgA in Handball, Volleyball and Climbing Sports
Background and Aims: The immune system protects the body against many invasive foreign materials. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of an intense anaerobic exercise session on serum IgG, IgM and IgA levels in handballists, volleybalists and climbers. Materials and Methods: In this study, 45 professional athletes with the average age of 20-30 years who had participated in th...
